How "Time Cells" Let Your Brain Time Travel

The future is comming

“The hippocampus is important for evaluating the temporal order of events, and damage to it can lead to memory impairment for temporal order (for example, remembering the order of a list of items),” says Reddy.

Previous studies in rats and mice have shown that hippocampal neurons, or "time cells," play a central role in time perception and memory. However, it remains unclear to what extent rodent time cells are similar to human neurons.

To fill this gap, Reddy and her colleagues conducted two experiments to register the functioning of individual neurons in the human brain. The researchers recruited people with epilepsy who were implanted with electrodes to track seizure activity.
